For me, the best thing about photography is, no matter how good you are there’s always room for improvement. Even after taking hundreds of thousands of photos, I’m still discovering new things. So here’s a few of my favorite techniques.
First up, play with elevation! A billion people take pictures every day from the same old boring standing up position. So get low! Or Go high. And shoot something that’s visually more appealing.
Close in on your subject. If something’s worth taking a picture of, it’s usually worth taking 5! So don’t stop with just a wide shot. Often I find the most interesting photos are the ones where I got up close and personal.
Forget the horizon. Well, not always. Keeping the horizon straight is important for landscapes. But tilting the camera about 15 degrees gives your subject a sense of movement and makes it interesting.
Give those tips a try. And if you catch an awesome photo share it with me on Twitter @johnpoz! Happy shooting!
