New iPods, iTunes and Apple TV
Apple introduced a number of changes to the iPod line at their event this week. Also, new versions of iTunes and Apple TV were announced.
Netflix on iPhone
After great success on the iPad and much anticipation Netflix has come to the iPhone! You’ll now be able to stream movies direct to your phone over Wi-Fi and 3G.
Skype Group Video Calls Get Bigger
Skype is expanding its capacity for group video calls from five to ten people. If you need face to face calling with a crowd, the Windows beta is available now.
Tiny Little USB Stick
If you hate having a USB stick hang precariously out of your laptop, this one’s for you! The MosKeyto only sticks out 6mm from your computer.
Canon 4K Camera Concept
Continuing with the future vision of shooting extremely high quality video, then pulling stills from it, Canon’s concept for a 4K camera leaves current HD in the dust.

Cali, I have endured the blatant plugs for Apple products while ignoring their deficiencies because I typically enjoy the other products you review. I have to draw the line at the drunk driving propaganda you spewed on this episode. Are you and Neal that desperate for revenue that you have to take government handouts to spread their propaganda? Drunk driving arrests are just money making scams for the government, insurance companies, and MADD. Plano wouldn’t even exist if it wasn’t for their traffic ticket scams. The penalties for this offense are often worse than drug possession, theft, and other real crimes. Some states have lowered the limit so low that if you drink two drinks in two hours you can be jailed. They ruin the social drinkers’ lives while not really addressing the real problem the truly excessive drinker with a BAC around 0.2%. Instead of getting these people the help they need, they throw them in jail and make the dependent on the “system.” Sorry for the rant, but I have seen the impact that a DUI can have on a perfectly good person’s life and family. Studies have shown that there are more incidents of other distractions causing as severe accidents as by a drunk. Driving down Central, I have seen people mixing coffee, glued to their cell phone, putting on makeup, watching TV, and even reading the news paper.
Cali, I attended the 2010 Canon Expo in NYC this week. That 4K camera Canon was showing is only a demo and “if” produced will look very different. I think more impressive was the 8K monitors which were so clear they looked 3D. I was impressed with the new 7D camera.
Oh, I liked the DUI message. Everyone should drive safe and sober this weekend and DUI check points will be everywhere. Check this out. I came up with my own slogan for people like me who have been know to drink a glass of wine or three. “Get hammered at home!” The get hammered at home project does not tell people not to drink but just drink at your house. Happy Labor Day!
When I first saw the new products Apple rolled out, I thought I was seeing an aberration, a *concept* of a new Nano. But when the reality sank in, I said to my self “I must have one”. Even though I recently replaced my 3rd gen, Nano with a 120G Classic, I’ll purchase the new Nano for a back up. And as for all the other new roll-outs, cooler that cool!!! Apple is #1 in innovations like this.
As for drinking & driving, I got caught once, ONCE with one simple beer, did the whole walk the line thing, what date is it, follow the pen test & that was it, never again did I get behind the wheel even with 1/2 a beer or *what ever*, that was let’s see, when was 1995? I know someone who just got his licence restored after a 10 year suspension, I couldn’t afford to spend 10 days off the road.
Thanks for the report on this Cali & have a great weekend, I’m sure I speak for all out here, do a few things you enjoy on the outside of your studio…… “B”
I like the moskeyto concept too! However it is only available up to 8 GB. Maybe they intend to offer a 16 GB, but it isn’t available yet. http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=11546
PS – I was actually impressed you took a moment for a Public Service Announcement re. DUI. Whether you agree with the laws or not, as you said, it can adversely affect your life forever.
Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t get why Apple (Apple TV), Microsoft (Zune on XBox 360) and others think that cloud has to mean rental only? Why can’t I pay a premium for unlimited views? Okay, so I don’t get to transfer it to other mediums like I can with iTunes, but it’s a compromise I could live with if the price was right.
It doesn’t HAVE to mean rental only, it’s just the way Apple set it up. I totally agree, a price for all the views you want, or even a price for 10 views or 5 views would be better!
I could be wrong, but even with the new apple tv, you can buy the movie on your computer, and stream it from there to your tv via the apple tv. What you save is having to have hard drive space on your computer and your apple tv taken up by the same movie. I would love to see a model where you could buy the movie, and not have to store it anywhere. In that model, it would save hard drive space for everyone. I mean, iTunes would only need to store one copy for thousands, or millions of users that have bought the same title. I’m tired of having to pay for storage on all my devices to store the same content on all of them. Maybe this is where apple is heading, remember Lala?
I know I don’t need it… but I kinda want an iPod Nano because it’s adorable!
Very cute tie there Cali.
I noticed the tie too

However, the biggest news for me is that Skype is finally releasing multi-party video conferencing. The speculation was that they ran Festoon outta town when they made their Skype addon, and since then I’ve never found a good free multi-party video conferencing tool.
However, it seems that Skype will ultimately want to be paid for their work on this feature as well – ie. you can get a free trial for multi-party video conferencing.
As for drinking & driving, maybe you should all have a look at some of our ads
Let me get that for you… http://tinyurl.com/2f6bdvw
