Google+ Desktop App

If you’re like me (Circle me on Google+ John Pozadzides) and you’re starting to use Google+, you might be wishing for the convenience of Hootsuite Google+ integration or some other actual Google+ desktop application.

But keep in mind that in order to get an actual Google+ desktop application, Google has to release the API so that developers can integrate support into other services (Hootsuite, TweetDeck, etc).

In the meantime and since I don’t want to wait, I created a stand alone Google+ application and I figured I’d share it in case you wanted one too.

Now you have a couple of options:

  1. You can download the one that I already created. Get the Google+ Desktop Application for Mac here.
    Download the Google+ Desktop App

    Download the Google+ Desktop App

Unzip it, and drop it in your Applications folder.
  2. You can download and install Fluid for Mac. Download a cool icon to use for the app. Then, spend the time to create your own standalone Google+ Desktop application.

Either way, enjoy your spiffy new standalone Google+ Desktop Application.

If you’re a Windows user, don’t worry! We’ll put out a separate blog post with a Windows application for Google+ soon.

John P, downloaded your Google+ app. Looks nice and I will be trying out Fluid soon. But this looks exactly the normal browser version of Google+. So, what was the point of making this app if it is the same as the browser version?

@CB: I live in Germany and my friends and I are using Google+ for some time now.
I don’t know where your problem is.

@Jeff Turner: I don’t know if the App of John P has more functionality, as I am a Windows and Linux User, but there is already an official Google+ app for Android.

Google+ still only works in the US….John!
How about you and your team start treating the
global community, AS a global community.
6.5 billion people can’t all live in the one country.
Maybe Livid Lobster would be better on a local TV
network, seeing as how you only ever talk about YOUR
local topics. I’m unsubscribing from your channel.

I have been looking for a desktop application for Windows. Seriously, this should be in Hootsuite. Do you think Google ever plans to release the API so developers can start making applications???

Hi John, This is Todd Developer of Fluid. Thanks for mentioning Fluid! Much appreciated.

One important thing though: I always ask that Fluid users *not* redistribute the Fluid Apps they create (this is stated on the About page of the Fluid website). So I’d like to ask that you please do not redistribute the Google Plus Fluid App you’ve made, but rather, just direct your friends or readers to and let them try it for themselves. Using Fluid is so easy, I’m confident they can figure it out for themselves (and usually enjoy the process, I find).

    Thanks again.
