It looks (and sounds) like something from the creature cantina in Star Wars. Check out the Eigenharp, a new digital musical instrument from Eigenlabs, a British innovation company. Is it the accordion of the future or a binary bassoon? I’m not sure where this fits in, but it’s gotten the attention of a few notable musicians and looks and sounds pretty cool.
The description on Eigenlabs website says the instrument’s keys are sensitive to within a micron, making the instrument “the most expressive ever made.” Presumably all of that sensitivity can facilitate a more dynamic range of tonal quality, crescendo and variation.
At about $6000 the Eigenharp Alphs won’t be in my collection anytime soon but if they ever send one to GeekBeat to try, I’ll be the first to learn to play it and give you a demo.
