Yesterday when I was writing today’s show I asked you guys what you wanted to see in it! And we’re going to get to that in a minute, but first! I have a bone to pick with Waze!
Where Did Terry Crews Go???
Ok, you guys know who Terry Crews is, right? Of course you do. Even if you don’t know that you do! He’s the guy from the crazy Old Spice commercials where he’s showing off his massive pecs, and he played the President in the movie Idiocracy, and he’s on the TV show Brooklyn 99. Anyway, he ALSO used to be one of the voices you could choose in Waze – the navigation app!
In fact, he was by far the best voice ever! And the only reason I started using Waze again about a month ago. And now, he’s gone! Waze dropped him from the voice options, and when I asked them why, here’s what they had to say…
Nothing. That’s right. They didn’t respond to my Tweet. Which tells me there is a massive conspiracy underway! It’s probable that Terry Crews has been abducted by government agents, or jihadi militants. And as we speak they are torturing him ruthlessly! Of course, it’s probably going to be the last thing they ever do, if you’ve seen The Untouchables… but I digress.
Giant Fighting Robots on Kickstarter
Speaking of giant powerful fighting creatures, have you see the MegaBots Robot Fighting League on Kickstarter? Finally, something Cali and I can both love! Robots! Fighting other robots!
A group of guys out of Boston decided they were sick of hearing about a future where giant robots battle one another for our entertainment, and instead set about to make that future a reality! And thus was born MegaBots! These monolithic robots have just one job. Destroy one another for your amusement! And if you want to see it come to fruition you can contribute to their $1.8 million ask on Kickstarter.
The only bad news is that with 24 days to go, they have yet to even break the $50,000 mark. So I’m a little fearful that MegaBots time has not yet come… Personally I think a better option would be to pitch it to a network and get major sponsors to back it. But hey, maybe I’ll pledge the $10k necessary to put the Geek Beat logo on a bot. Or maybe my own mug?
Q&A: Lowdown on the Nexus 9
Ok, this is the part of the show where I just answer YOUR questions and stuff. Not that I do that every show, I know. But it’s the part of THIS show where I’m doing it.
Both Eugene Jackson and Bill Ramey asked me for reviews of the Nexus 9. Well, unfortunately I haven’t gotten my hands on one yet. But I must admit it is a good looking new tablet from Google, sporting the latest Android 5.0 release.
With a 64 bit NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, a 192 core Kepler GPU, 8.9” 2048×1536 screen, 6700 MaH battery, front facing speakers and a magnetically detachable keyboard it looks like a serious work tool as much as consumption machine.
It’s also got 802.11ac WiFi, so it can not only keep up with your high speed cable, but even your wired network at home or the office! That’s good because unfortunately you aren’t going to be getting a 4G chip in it like you can the competition from Apple and Samsung. You’re also going to be limited to either 16 or 32GB of storage, with no option for adding more.
So, there’s that.
Q&A: What’s the Story on that Ring?
Michael Downing, and like a jillion other people keep asking, what’s the story with the ring on Cali’s finger? So let me finally explain once and for all so that we can move on!
Ok, a ring is a decorative ornament often worn on fingers. Though sometimes it can be worn on toes, or around the neck… anyway, Cali’s ring is made of metal, and contains precious gemstones.
So, hopefully that sheds some light on a difficult concept!
Q&A: Landscape View for Social Media?
Finally, David Colman asked:
When are social media apps going to do landscape for new iPhone Plus and do they already work this way on Note 4?
Well, I’ve got no idea about the iPhone Plus! But yes, they do indeed rotate on the new Samsung Galaxy Note 4! And here’s the proof. Hootsuite, Google+, Pinterest…
