What’s a Hacker Space?

People who like to tinker with tech and gadgets, and just about anything else, to make them a little better and a little cooler, are hackers. A hacker space is a place where they gather to work on their projects and celebrate their victories.

Benefits of the Group Environment

Having a bunch of like minded tinkerers and builders in one place has some real advantages. Suggestions pass back and forth and inspiration is everywhere you turn!

Dallas Makerspace

We visited the Dallas Makerspace for this show. If you’re in the DFW area, you should plan a visit. If you’re somewhere else, do a little research, there’s probably a hacker group nearby. They’re well worth checking out!

    Hi Cali!

Reporter: Gary Winston once said that any teenager in a garage could put him out of business. Is that what you’ve done?
Milo: [Looking around him] This is a garage.

Great episode and a great reminder that much of the cool tech we enjoy today is because of people like those at the Dallas Makerspace.

I think the GeekBeat team does an excellent job of covering what the big tech companies are doing and I know you regularly show what researchers are doing but maybe the team would consider adding a regular segment (quarterly?) to cover what people are doing in their basements, garages, etc.

    Hello Cali,
thank you and your team for this episode of GeekBeatTV.

Wow, if only places like this hacker spaces or makerspaces would have been around when i got my start in computers. 8)

It’s nice to see what a group of like minded tinkerers or hackers could do. Thank you, Cali, for this insight in how such things work. <3ed it.

According to your definition of a hacker, people who like to tinker with tech and gadgets, i guess i'm a hacker too because i always look for ways to make computers do what i want them to do instead of what companies like Microsoft like them to do.

Take care and after that one leg in take of the intro i wish you a great and relaxing weekend too ;)
