Apple’s New iMacs and Cinema Display
Apple has announced new iMacs with both dual and quad cores. They’re also rolling out a new 27-inch Cinema Display for people not quite ready for the 30-inch model.

Magic Trackpad and Mac Pro
Apple also gave us something a few of us have been hoping for, the Magic Trackpad, a separate input device for desktop and notebook systems. There are also new Mac Pros coming in August.

DMCA Rule Changes
If you’ve been holding back on jailbreaking your iPhone because it was illegal, that’s one less worry for you. The Library of Congress changed rules of the DMCA which affect many members of the geek community. Of course, Apple still doesn’t want you jailbreaking.

Grabbing Domain Names
The .co domain opened up and it’s another digital land rush. If you’ve got a domain name in mind, you might want to grab it before someone else does.

I still won’t buy an iPhone until Verizon ‘actually’ sells it. I sure wish the MagicTrackpad would work on a PC. Sorry guys (& Cali) I haven’t made that quantum leap to Apple computing products. But more than likely, I’ll pick up an iPad soon. Oh, sorry, a little bit of an echo on GB15, got stronger at 3:54… Can’t wait to experience the new bloggers… Talk soon, “B”

The contemporary iMacs are a choice example of excellence in form factor evolution. Well do I remember the playful Bondi Blue 233 running on the Motorola 750e PowerPC RISC processor and the even more playful colored tray-loading and later, slot-loading CRT iMacs.

WIth each successive generation and processor architecture, the iMac kept getting a little more serious, with the first Intel machines (the 2.16 GHz 24″ model had a superb graphics card and a beautiful 24″ display) and later, the handsome aluminum and black iMacs.

This is Apple holding on to a good thing and making it better as time goes by.

Why all the Canadians on the blog?

Don’t you know that, in the words of Mark Evans, we are digital peasants up here? We don’t get anything until it has been out for months in the States (DroidX, iPhone….any phone), and sometimes never (Pandora, Hulu….free CallerID).

Congrats to the Geekbeat bloggers! I don’t know about the Magic Trackpad if it’s something I’ll need for what I do.

Haha, I know the frustrations, Geoff! :) But these guys aren’t *just* doing hands on reviews, just as I don’t always do hands on reviews. We will have a lot of hands on stuff, but they also have the same interests as the rest of us!

Before people rush out to buy the Magic Trackpad, I hope they (and reviewers) will ask this:

Why spend $70 for more hardware when, for $2 to $5, we can buy any of several App Store apps that turn our existing iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad into a trackpad.

My favorite app is Touchpad, which is optimized to work with all three devices. It works extremely well via WiFi — better than any Bluetooth device, in my opinion.

Well..what happens when you’re scrolling around on your computer and your phone rings?

I know, we’re working on Episode 16. I’m sorry! I don’t know exactly what happened – the file is corrupt and trying to determine where in the line it went bad. :)

Can I really rip backups of my DVDs legally now? If DVD ripping software is legal now, it will be nice to have commercial quality programs to replace the clunky DVD Shrink and Handbrake etc.

A question more than a comment. Why does the ad only prefix the GB episode ‘sometimes’. And sometimes I’ll see about 10 secs. of blank screen, then the GB will start playing… Thanks! “B”
