Yesterday we completed Week 1 of our #GetFit program (here’s John P.’s Week 1 Update). Today it was time to weigh in and get measured, as we will each Monday. And… WOW! I was shocked by the outcome!
For the first week, I honestly felt a little confused and disappointed by what I perceived my results to be on a daily basis. Left to my own devices, I tend to eat fairly healthy on a regular basis. I love fish and eat salmon regularly. I don’t scarf down a lot of sugar. Though I’m certainly no where near perfect when it comes to diet. If I’m busy with work, I’ll grab whatever is easy and quick. I crave things like pasta and bread (hey… I’m Italian after all!). And if sweets are around… sure I’ll bite.
While my diet is no where near as bad as John P.’s (chips, gummy bears and Coke all day), I have to admit, I had a little trouble getting used to the diet Jeff Dwelle outlined for us. We have protein shakes, supplements and fat burners in addition to lean protein and carbs to consume. It took most of the week for my stomach to get used to it, and I wasn’t seeing ANY movement on the scale.
But you know what? I trust Jeff. He’s the expert. So I did exactly as he said, including eating a cheat meal (not a cheat DAY, but a single meal) on the weekend. I almost didn’t cheat. I really wanted to see results today, so I toyed with the idea of sticking to fish that day. But that wouldn’t have been following directions, so I did as I was told.
At the gym, I felt like it was a pretty easy week. The first few workouts, both Jeff and Todd were testing us to see where we were and how far they COULD push us. Towards the end of the week, they began pushing me harder and to the point of failure… until I could do no more on each exercise.
I began to see some definition in certain areas by the end of the week. Monday morning the scale stayed about the same, and I was a bit nervous going to the gym. All I could hope for was a small drop in body fat percentage. Out came the calipers and measuring tape. When I saw the results, I realized one thing.
Everything I thought I knew about working out and eating just flew out the window. I knew absolutely NOTHING!
I’ve never been able to achieve results so quickly. Jeff and Todd are my heroes! Now, we still have a long journey ahead of us, but I’m even more jazzed about what both John P. and I can accomplish with the help of experts… and how we can help you guys, the Geek Beat community, learn the right behaviors to get the results you’re looking for!
