Graffiti and Destruction at Our New Building

Last weekend we were over at the new building moving everything out and getting ready for death and destruction! Well, at least destruction. Because starting today the asbestos removal team is in there tearing out all the walls!

SOMEHOW, someone crazy got into the building and graffitied the walls! I mean, I don’t know who… but here’s a giant clue.

Anyway, after that craziness, the demolition crew came in today and started tearing out the flooring. We couldn’t believe how fast they got it done! Basically all the carpet tile and wood floors are gone and there is just a bunch of glue everywhere. It’s pretty nasty looking, so I don’t know how they’re going to make it look good yet, but I have faith!

Why Dark Chocolate is Good For You

Switching gears on you, Charles Jefferson over on the Geeks+ community shared this news. At a meeting of the American Chemical Society, researchers revealed that they finally understand why dark chocolate is good for you!

“The good microbes, such as Bifidobacterium and lactic acid bacteria, feast on chocolate. When you eat dark chocolate, they grow and ferment it, producing compounds that are anti-inflammatory.”

So, see! Another reason I should get chocolate during the #GeekFit project!

A Call for Access Control Providers

On another totally unrelated note, if anyone here is with a company that specializes in IP-based building access controls, like badge readers or keyfobs that unlock doors, and you want work with us on securing the new building, let Cali or I know! You donate a little product and expertise, we’ll film it all up and share it with everyone so we all learn how to do it and who to do it with… Sounds like win-win to me! A Fitness Tracker That Didn’t Work Out

Finally, I’m sad to say it, but I have to. Some of you guys heard me telling you how much I was digging the Mio Alpha wrist heart rate monitor. Well, I’ve changed my mind. It turns out to be wildly inaccurate during my actual workouts. It will routinely misreport my heart rate and I have to continually stop and start it. Even then I don’t trust it. So it’s going back. Instead, I’m going to be trying out the Polar FT7 chest strap. We’ll see how that one works out.

    I did the same thing with my heart rate monitor John. I bought a watch from eBay which gives readings all over the place. Then I bought the polar which is tip-top – at least gives consistent and feasible readings. Plus you have a choice of apps that it can connect to.

    Hope the workout is going ok really! I’m finding the diet quite hard to stick to, simply because my job means I eat out nearly every day (I actually love cooking so that’s not a good thing!). Plus, for some reason, my knees freakin hurt!
