Have you ever thought that the iPad would be the ideal interactive coloring book for kids who love Crayola, but shuddered at the thought of cleaning all that waxy crayon mess off the screen? The partnership of Griffin Technology and Crayola will be a welcome one then. They’ve collaborated on creating the ColorStudio HD iPad app, and accompanying iMarker accessory.
“We love creating technology for kids—it’s one of the most exciting and rewarding things we do,” said Mark Rowan, President of Griffin Technology. “We’re thrilled to partner with Crayola and bring their signature blend of kid-friendly creativity to the digital world.”
“Coloring as kids know it is about to come alive in an amazing new way through our partnership with Griffin Technology,” said Warren Schorr, Head of Crayola Licensing. “Imagine a coloring book that morphs and changes as kids digitally color it in. This application is taking a classic play pattern and bringing it totally outside the box.”
ColorStudio HD, the iPad app component of the set, is a sort of interactive coloring book with live animating images and scenes that move and react as kids play with it. The app can recognize the difference between input from the companion iMarker accessory and direct input from little fingers. On iPads with iOS 4.2 or later, the designs can be printed out to be colored (presumably with Crayola crayons!)
The iMarker accessory is described as safe for the iPad display, and is a kid-friendly stylus patterned after a Crayola crayon.
The ColorStudio HD app will be available in Spring of this year for $29.99 and includes the iMarker stylus and AA batteries. Free content updates will be available regularly after launch.
