I’ve tried my share of iPad desk mounts and haven’t been happy with any of them for one of two reasons (or both in the same product!):
- Instability
- Too complicated
That is, until I got the HoverBar from TwelveSouth in the mail. And you know what? I fell for it immediately. It was very easy to put together. Just like everything TwelveSouth sells, the design is simple and matches all your Apple products with its black and chrome finish. Even the clamp is finished out with care – they’ve lined it with silicone so it won’t scratch your table.
Who Should Use the HoverBar?
If you have an iPad 2 or the New iPad, you can use the HoverBar as it ships. If you have an original iPad, you can buy a case for $20.
When you look at their website, you’ll see it attached to the back of an iMac. But don’t let that hinder your imagination! I prefer to clamp it on the side of my desk to use as an additional monitor. You could use it in the kitchen to display your recipes while cooking without taking up counter space. Or in the restroom for watching video content while you get ready in the morning. There are all sorts of options for a mount like this.
Stable & Flexible
The main reason I like this iPad mount above all others I’ve tried is that it’s stable. It’s stiff and won’t fall over. BUT! It’s flexible enough that you can adjust it into whatever position you need it to be in.
Now, don’t get me wrong, when your finger makes impact on the screen, there is a little bit of give and the iPad will shake slightly. I don’t know that this can be fixed in any device where it’s hovering in the air, and the HoverBar gives to the force less than other mounts I’ve tried.
If you’re looking for something like this to free up your hands, I highly recommend the HoverBar. It’s $80.
