Hulu Plus
Hulu announced Hulu Plus, officially $9.99. It’ll give you the back catalog of TV shows, rather than just the last 5 episodes. There will still be ads. They’re working on a combo model. Only a select few are being let in so far.
Cisco’s Cius
If you’re frustrated by the lack of cameras in the Pad, and were hoping to be able to use it for video chats, take a look at Cisco’s idea called the Cius. It’s targeted at businesses for teleconferencing purposes, and is based on Android.
Department of Defense’s Bat Hook

Look forward to any android tablet! Love the new ‘zoom in and out’ format of the GeekBeat.TV episodes. Keep up the great work GB team!
Saw something else this week in the vein of getting power from power lines, but one that doesn’t put a hole in the power line. Another research project in the area of defense has created something that goes around the power line and harness the magnetic field to generate power by induction. Here’s a link:

I though about it, & will not join the paid Hulu, same as you, cant justify the cost in my busy weeks. The CIUS pad looks interesting, but I’d wait about a year after initial release 2 conceder buying. But with my love of movies, I’m Grandpa Jones when it comes to Net Flix, I must join soon… And I wish people would stop putting down your hair, wardrobe & mannerisms, you still kill in a T shirt & jeans, & your not a dork Cali
Will not subscribe to Hulu, but still watch Justified on it. I love the far reaching tech you mention to which us common folk, thankfully, have no access. How you fit all of this in so tight a spot is just amazing.
Those robots are way too cool! The Cius might be cool but what a horrible name!
Nope, not gonna pay for Hulu either. Now, if Apple were doing TV I might go for it and drop UVerse – but my daughter is hooked on disney TV so until that’s available elsewhere, I’m stuck
Now netflix? I’ve been a subscriber so long I’m grandfathered into a plan no longer available! I’m probably one of the longest subscribers they’ve had
I’ve got my family using the iPad to exercise with down in the basement – watching netflix on the iPad while exercisin – what a great set of tools!

Sorry not paying for Hulu “plus”, didn’t even consider it when it was announced. Does the plus stand for more ads? Now if it was announced that “Hulu Plus is here
and we won’t bother you with ads, that is a different story. Still wouldn’t get it but
its a different story.
TiVo still does the trick for us, fast forward through the ads, and if there is something I need to see or want to keep I head on over to the iTunes store and honestly most of the TV that I have been watching lately aren’t available on iTunes or through Hulu *cough* The IT Crowd and Doctor Who *cough* those I have to watch through a proxy server or fly BT airways (and when they do show up on iTunes I buy them anyways just to “back fill” the cost to make sure folks get paid).
Loving the new show and glad it is on Revision3.
Hulu has gone insane. I don’t want to pay $10 / month for tv with ads ON TOP OF Internet phone and the normal tv. Sorry it’s just not worth it.
Hulu for $10… if they got rid of the ads, maybe. Definitely won’t be getting it because I already have Netflix. Not the biggest current library, and annoyingly missing a few episodes for streaming in some TV seasons, but it works.
Also, comedy central pulled out of Hulu, so my Daily Show fix still has to go to Comedy Central. I need something more compelling than “now I can watch it on the xbox… so long as I’m a Gold LIVE subscriber too.” iPhone and iPad don’t count either as I don’t have them.
I think that robot is flipping me off…
Like the new site Cali but the advertising on the right hand side is sketchy to say the least. Now that R3 has you on it maybe they can realize there target market is not 15 year old boys. I mean an advert that says “Megan thinks your profile is naked.” seriously!!
Rupert Murdoch can suck it. I’m not paying for content with ads in it. He must be smoking crack. Robots are always cool and that tablet looks interesting (like the iPad, can’t figure out why I personally would need one).
I will absolutely be signing up for Hulu Plus. With that and Netflix I can get rid of Cable TV and get higher speed internet. And then I won’t have to DVR either, just watch the show I want when I want…of course will the SyFy network be included?
I loved Geek Brief, but Geek Beat just isn’t doing it for me. You don’t seem like yourself, Cali.
I wonder if someone else is writing your material and that’s why it is so much more obvious that you’re reading a teleprompter. Or perhaps it is the director because you seem like you’re trying to emulate Patrick or Veronica. Just go back to being yourself.
Also, it looks like you’re dancing your way through the episode.
My advice: go back to sitting on a chair in a t-shirt and jeans. You look more relaxed, more comfortable, and more relatable.
It’s a new show so I know you’re going to be tweaking and improving it. I’m going to stick around to see if that happens. If so, I’ll continue to be a fan, follower and subscriber for ever. If not . . . guess I’ll have to find my shiny happy tech news someplace else.
i think i will be signing up for hulu plus. it will replace my very basic cable — i’ll get a few more tv shows and save a few bucks. i’ll also definitely be streaming it on my iphone 4. just playing the waiting game for my invite!
Hulu $10 & Netflix $14 vs. Cable $65
You pay for cable and still suffer thru ads. The Hulu/Netlfix combo is a no brainer. With the iPad – I now carry my entrainment with me and watch what I want when I want. No muss, no fuss.
Hulu Plus doesn’t make any sense. There’s no way that I’m going to pay a monthly fee *and* sit through commercials. Besides, with NetFlix and podcasts, I just don’t have much time left for Hulu.
Lets see $8.99 for unlimited no ads online streaming on any device plus one DVD by mail, or $9.99 for online streaming with ads on any device no DVD… Yea Hulu is just plain dumb everyone will go with Netflix.
I use Hulu Desktop to watch shows that I am subscribed to. For viewers that watch episodes when they first become available, Hulu Plus does not seem to offer anything new. Of course, if Hulu became a paid subscription service only, I would be willing to pay $10 per month, with our without ads. The only thing I use my cable line for is to watch NBA games in HD.
Nice show again!
But, you really need to put the Rev3 people on making the geekbeat site more intuitive.. The header with the woopra banner and the overall structure is confusing. And you need to make a column/playlist for the episodes, and put the other “extra” videos someplace else. At least prefix them (or the episodes) with something so you can see what is what.
I agree with David above – I’m a die-hard GeekBrief fan. When I heard of the changes I thought – that’s sad – but, I also thought it’s still Cali we know and love so no worries. I used to look fwd to each and every GeekBrief, I championed you and your tech blog. I recommended you. Geekbeat is too frivolous, the shameless ad promos seem to take up too much of the now shorter shows. Where’s the insightful, well reasoned, informative script and tech news?
It’s a bit like teeny-bopper news – light, without substance and a little manic.
I agree with David’s points, particularly: “Geek Beat just isn’t doing it for me. You don’t seem like yourself, Cali”
“… someone else is writing your material and that’s why it is so much more obvious that you’re reading a teleprompter”
“Also, it looks like you’re dancing your way through the episode”
“My advice: go back to sitting on a chair in a t-shirt and jeans. You look more relaxed, more comfortable, and more relatable”
I’ll stick around for a bit but Cali, I loved your style and professional look and manner, I can’t see me sticking with it for more than the next month.
I used to be
but now I’m

I will subscribe to Hulu Plus as I value my time and want to watch what I want when I want!!! Ads don’t bother me just like the ads i see in magazines I subscribe through Zinio.
Any plans to make GeekBeat.Tv iPad friendly? I.e. Html5…
Nice site and great text.
Hey, great blog!. How do I subscribe to your RSS feed to ensure I get notifed when you make new posts? Thanks
No, I will not be signing up for Hulu Plus. Hulu Free has enough for me. Only current run shows have the 5 episode limit. McHale’s Navy has a ton I’m working through. Boxee aggregates Hulu with CBS, NBC, PBS, TBS, Comedy Central, and more. That has enough current and old programs for me to replace cable for free. Plus all that fiction takes time away from great video podcasts.
Yes, Cius is pronounced the same as “See Us”. I attended a Cisco TelePresence briefing today. It was really cool. I’m hoping the company will pull in more of the TelePresence solutions into our office. Also I look forward to integrating TelePresence solutions into products for our customers.

The disguised time bomb in all of this is that as peoplefight to reduce weight levels the resultant effect of all of this then emerges as levels of fitness tightens up with no available exercise being taken and more disease becoming prevalent…If Central Governments don’t take a grip soon then we could be facing an obesity problem.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to make more money with my blogs for a while now. I’ve tried Adsense, and it just sucks. I’ve tried a few affiliate networks, but haven’t had much luck. I was thinking about trying the clickbank wealth formula that I was reading about on the warriors forum. Here is a link to it. I’ve read some good reviews about it. Have you tried it? Does it really work? Any idea if it is suitable for a newb or not?
