What began as an April Fool’s joke is going on to be a dynasty. ION, makers of the iCade line of cabinets and controllers that give mobile gaming a retro feel, announced today that they will be bringing their magic to us with an NES flavor.

The iCade 8-Bitty is a handheld controller that looks more than a little like a classic NES controller and communicates with your iPhone, iPad, or Android device via Bluetooth. Power is supplied by two AAA batteries which are not included. The 8-Bitty is compatible with all games that currently work with other iCade controls, and their open interface makes it easy for game developers to keep new software coming. For a complete list of iOS games that are compatible, check ThinkGeek’s 8-Bitty page.

This newest addition comes after the new iCade Jr. and iCade Mobile we showed you at CES. The 8-bitty will be available later this year for $24.99 at ThinkGeek.

What classic gaming device should get the iCade treatment next? Let us know in the comments.
