LaCie Updates its Fuel Wireless Hard Drive with Double the Capacity

April 2, 2014 By Benjamin J. Roethig

LaCie, a premium division of drive maker Seagate, has updated its Fuel wireless drives with the new 2TB capacity 2.5″ drives. This doubles the Fuel’s maximum capacity. That’s enough space up for 1,000 movies. The Fuel uses the Seagate Media app to for your iOS, Android, or Amazon Kindle devices. The drive fully supports Apple’s Airplay for streaming for your TV or projector. It’ll also work wirelessly with your Mac or PC. The Fuel has its own WiFi network, but can also act as hotspot to your existing wireless network.

The updated Fuel costs $249.99 and will ship later this April.

LaCie Fuel Doubles Capacity, Now Expands iPad Capacity by 2TB

CUPERTINO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– LaCie, the premium brand from Seagate Technology (NASDAQ: STX), announced that its LaCie Fuel™ wireless hard drive will be available this April with an expanded capacity of 2TB. With double the capacity than before, LaCie Fuel offers more storage than any 2.5” wireless hard drive on the market. It is the ideal cable-free, portable solution for movie buffs, photographers and others to gain 2TBs of on-the-go access and storage for iPad® or iPhone® and Mac®.

HD movies can monopolize storage space on mobile devices, requiring users to make compromises on what content to synchronize to their device. With the 2TB LaCie Fuel, users can go from 20 movies on a 32GB iPad® to over 1,000 movies on the Fuel. This allows users to store entire movie collections without sacrificing any of the content they need.

Professionals will also benefit from the larger capacity of the new 2TB LaCie Fuel. As the number of journalists, bloggers and photographers using iPhones to cover events increases, so does the need for higher capacity storage that allows them to collaborate with colleagues and offload content on the go. When they return to the workplace, LaCie Fuel makes it convenient to wirelessly access photos and videos directly from the computer.

  • The LaCie Fuel offers the same great features and form as the 1TB model, including:
  • Wireless streaming of content to up to five devices without an internet connection
  • The ability to create its own Wi-Fi network and act as a hotspot when connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi
  • Airplay® compatibility for mirroring content on a larger screen
  • A 10–hour battery life*

The LaCie Fuel uses the Seagate Media app, which offers easy navigation of media libraries and documents on iPad® or iPhone®, Android® devices and the Amazon Kindle®.

AVAILABILITY

The LaCie Fuel 2TB can be preordered through the LaCie online store for $249.99 (MSRP, USA only). It will be available worldwide through LaCie resellers later in April, 2014. The Seagate Media app is available for iOS®, Android, and Amazon Kindle. For more product information, visit www.lacie.com.
