LineScout Taking Over Dangerous Jobs

Share:

If you had a dangerous job like fixing power lines, would you be okay with a robot taking over your job if it meant you stayed on the ground and controlled that robot? I’m going to assume the answer is yes for most of you, but then again, maybe you like the danger! :)

Wow that’s sharp!!! I *would* use this roving line traveler myself, yes!!! I imagine the service it does has limitations. Right now, the stated purpose is performing inspections, testing & measuring. But I’d like to see it used for actual splicing or preventive maintaince. I’m also presuming, this little guy is very well shielded, these high voltage transmissions can approach 1,000,000 volts at times. However, you’re right, I do enjoy a little danger at times, keeps my life electrified….. “B”

Very cool. Would have been even more impressive if they had actually shown an entire cycle of the unit getting itself past an obstacle. And, even better if they had shown it doing so in, say, a 20 mph breeze.

Also, am I the only one who objects to people referring to non-autonomous teleoperation devices as “robots”?
