RUN! Doctor Who Goes Pac-Man
What do you get when you cross Pac-Man with Doctor Who? It’s a free Flash game created by Ruben Vargas where Daleks chase Pac-Man. Or is it The Doctor?
Our New Building, #GetFit, and More!
Okay, now that THAT’s out of the way… if you missed it, John P. and I took you INSIDE the new Geek Beat Headquarters on Monday! So you can start to get an idea of what’s to come throughout the renovation process. I promise we’ll give you LOTS of updates on the process and what we’re planning. Just bookmark geekbeat.tv/NewBuilding. And it’s time to name the building! Head on over to the brand new Geek Beat Forums on the brand new website design and chime in with your thoughts on what we should call it. People have already thrown out some GREAT suggestions.
You can also chime in on the #GetFit project – this fitness program we’re going through with our trainers Jeff Dwelle and Todd Abrams is not just for us. You guys have shown so much interest in doing it WITH us. So we’ll keep you updated and we want to hear what you’re doing to get healthier. It’s a community effort!
New Developer Tools for Chrome
Google has also been making Chrome a community effort. They announced that they’ve released new tools to make it easier for developers to not only automate the process of developing and releasing extensions and themes for Chrome, but also easier for them to get paid to do it, with either a paid Theme, or an in-app upgrade on an Extension, for example. Good news for developers!
New Add-Ons for Google Docs
On the other end, they also have great news for consumers who use Google Docs and Sheets. They’ve created a store of add-ons for documents and spreadsheets that you can add at your will. Some will be free. Some might be paid. Some are from Google. Some are from 3rd party developers. Probably one of the most exciting options for a lot of people is the Avery Label Merge add-on so you don’t have to do any exporting trickery just to print labels. They also have one that works with MailChimp so you can create a document and send it out newsletter style. If you do a lot of collaboration in the corporate environment, Letter Feed Workflows will give supervisors the ability to add an “approval” stamp on a document so everyone knows it’s ready to go. They have Twitter integration add ons, the ability to add more charts and add a signature. The list goes on and on! Just open up your doc or sheet, click Add-ons from the top menu bar, and “get add-ons”. Simple!
Fast, High Capacity Storage Gets Portable
Video editors will love this… LaCie announced the price and availability for their Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2. They claim it’s the world’s fasted portable external drive. Inside are 2 raided 500GB SSDs – so 1TB, capable of transferring data at up to 1375 Megabytes per second. And if you want even more…say, oh 2600MB/sec, you could daisy chain them together. For video editors, this could make a massive improvement in their workflow, especially as we move into the 4K world. Like anything new, it comes with a cost. $1300. But it’s fast!
