Pentax Q10: Big Camera in a Little Body

Pentax Q10 cameraThe 12.4 megapixel, interchangeable lens Pentax Q10, offers high-quality digital SLR photos in a super-compact and ultra-lightweight body. Barely larger than a deck of cards, the Q10 features a newly designed back-illuminated CMOS image sensor, a 3-inch LCD display, faster autofocus (AF) and a top sensitivity of ISO 6400.

Designed as a miniature version of a full-scale digital SLR, this camera is for photographers of all levels. The Q10’s autofocus operation is much faster than before and the Shake Reduction (SR) mechanism easily improves camera shake detected by the camera’s motion sensor. Capture fast moving subjects in high-speed continuous shooting mode by capturing up to five images (in JPEG recording format) in a single sequence, at a maximum speed of approximately five images per second.  The Face Recognition AF function automatically detects up to 12 faces, keeping the main subject in focus.

Feed your creative side with the Q10’s built-in HDR (High Dynamic Range) function or any of a total of 19 built-in digital filters for artistic visual effects. Use any of the nine Smart Effect modes to make on-camera edits to your photos while previewing the changes immediately on the camera’s LCD screen. For the casual photographer, choose among 21 Scene modes, allowing the camera to choose the best exposure mode for a scene.

The Q10 can also capture high quality, Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixel) video, at a frame rate of 30 frames per second. After capturing those special moments, you can use the micro-HDMI terminal to simultaneously output Full HD movie clips to an external device.

The new Pentax Q10 will be available at retail outlets nationwide and online in October 2012. It will be offered in a Red or Silver kit including the 02 zoom lens at a suggested retail price of $599.95.

  1. The original Q seemed like a lot of coin for what it offered when it first came out, but I snapped one up when prices dropped like a stone. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the camera, and unlike a lot of other cameras, it’s a lot of fun to use and experiment with.

I’ve been writing about the Q on my blog and invite you to visit:
