Look, I’ll be honest. I like to take baths. I like to take baths with warm water, bubbles that smell like jasmine & orange peel, and a nice book. Recently, I’ve become enamored with the idea of using my iPad while bathing, so I can catch up on the latest technology news or my Google + Stream.
Unfortunately, the risk of dropping my iPad in the bubbly, warm water is quite scary for me. Although I got my iPad in a contest, I still use it, and it’s still an expensive device.
Fortunately, there is the Drycase to solve my bathing woes. It’s a thick plastic bag for your device that can protect it from moisture, as well as from sand and other grit. There are two sizes: one for your phone, camera or MP3 player for $40, and one for your tablet for $60.
These prices are moderately expensive, but Drycase is multifunctional – it comes with an armband and a neckband in case you need to keep your devices close. Of course, there’s no point to this review if the Drycase was horrible at protecting your electronics from the elements.
According to Dry Corp, the makers of Drycase, the case has been tested to keep your devices water proof, even if
they were at the bottom of the lake overnight. Is this true? My tests were highly unscientific but incredibly fun. I took an old Nook that was aching for a bath, and used it for 3 minutes under hot water, and then put it in a bubble bath for 5 more minutes. Opening the case back up revealed that the Nook was in fact, quite dry.
Using the Drycase at first is a bit strange – the manual tells you to “twist” the little clamps up at the top, but that’s not the case – they really slide back and forth. So, to close the Drycase, you have to slide the clamps in such a way that the top of the clamps go through the holes on the Drycase, and then slide them over. After closing the Drycase, you need to vacuum pump the air out of it using a special white vacuum pump that comes with the case.
Due to the thick plastic of the dry case and the secure snaps, it can also protect against dust and sand. If you’re ever in these environments, or if you want to take baths without the fear of dropping your electronics, Drycase is your solution for about $40 to $60 a pop.

Rather expensive and appears to be a bit of work just to be able to use your device in
undesirable conditions. May be best just to not use those devices when in/around water and
dirty/dusty places?
