What if I said you could find a keyboard almost as good as Apple’s own Bluetooth Keyboard for under $20. It’s not so much a “what if” as a “what a keyboard!” now. German accessory maker Inateck has entered the market and produced one of the best Bluetooth keyboards at any price with their BK1002E. I’ll tell you more about it.
High Quality, Low Price
Before this review, I hadn’t previously heard of Inateck. Now I wish I had. The BK1002E is well made and reliable. It has the same aluminum veneer you’d expect from Apple. The scissor keys are high quality and dead quiet. There’s none of the give you’d expect with a keyboard in this price point. It’s on par with keyboards costing three times as much. The BK1002E works natively with OS X with the drivers. Command and option keys unique to the Mac, as well as the function keys, work as if this came from Apple. It also works with iOS as an iPad keyboard, and with windows Machines as well if you substitute the function of the command key for the Windows key. However, if you’re looking for a Windows keyboard like this, Inateck has a sister model called the BK1001E. Pricing and features are similar.
The BK1002E uses Bluetooth 3.0 for connection. It’s worked perfectly, connected to an almost 8-year-old Core 2 Duo Aluminum iMac. Compatibility with any Intel-powered Mac shouldn’t be an issue. Syncing is easy using the sync button on the bottom. Power is provided by a pair of standard AAAs with a roughly two-month lifespan. That increases if you use lithium instead of alkaline. Overall, I can’t find anything really wrong with this keyboard.
Pricing and Availability
The Inateck BK1002E is available now through Amazon. Current pricing is $18.99. No, that isn’t a typo. It’s under $20. I don’t know how they got this quality at this price, but they did.
If you were thinking about buying the Apple wireless keyboard, just don’t. Buy this keyboard from Inateck instead. You won’t find a better Mac-performing keyboard for the money. Heck, you might not find a better one at any price.
