Westone Audio has been making/innovating in-ear headphones with the most premium materials and optimal processes into all their products over decades and the new adventure series are nothing short of what I like to refer to as “Double-Awesome”.
The Adventure Series Alpha headphones are great for general, everyday listening, but definitely designed with the active outdoor, adventurer in mind. They warp around your outer ear and sit snug in between your Tragus, Antitragus, and ear canal like it was a missing piece of your ear. To ensure that they fit like an inner-ear glove, Westone provides Five foam and Five silicone sets of earbuds. You’ll find those inside of the carrying case along with an earwax cleaning tool (in-ear headphones collect wax better than bees make it). The carrying case is small, pocket size, and has small opening for a belt clip attachment.
The headphones themselves are great for hiking, biking, running, snowboarding, and any other type of on-the-go, outdoor activity. Most people do these things in the day. However, more often than not, you may not have time to do some of these things during the day because of work or school. So, after hours may be the only time for a run or bike ride. Luckily, Westone’s cables (replaceable) have a reflective coating and will keep you visible in those low-light, late afternoon adventures. They also have an in-line, MFi (Made for iPhone, iPad, iPod) system with three-button volume control and inline microphone.
The earphone is constructed from a magnesium uni-body, which allows for durability and unmatched design performance. The Adventure series are also IPX-3* water resistant and are protected against spraying water and adverse conditions for everyday use, rain or shine.
Keeping sound quality a priority, Westone integrated their rich heritage of signature driver technologies into the Adventure Series Alpha. A proprietary extended range 6.5mm micro driver with PST™(Precision Surface Tuning), 20Hz -18kHz frequency response, and impedance of 21 ohms, delivers sonic accuracy with extended bass.
When I listen to audio through my mobile devices with the Adventure Series Alpha, it feels very natural and smooth. The treble isn’t screaming, mids feel smooth yet defined, and the Bass isn’t overbearing, much like a lot of headphone manufacturers tend to make theirs. All around smooth like “Yacht Rock” or Jazz Flute played by the San Diego legend himself, Ron Burgundy. I’ve spent days and nights listening to these with music ranging from Pretty Lights’ new album, A Color Map Of the Sun (that has natural instrumentation with an electronic feel and great vocals) to French Turntablist/DJ’s, C2C albums that have lots of deep, rich bass and women vocalists like Feist (you’ve heard her music on old iPod commercials). All of of which come across these cross-over headphones in a soothing, natural tone that even the average listener could notice. To say the least, the Adventure series BEATS the pants off your honor student’s headphones.
Lastly, there are four things you’ll need to do once you’ve received your headphones from Westone:
1. Compress the foam eartip; marked (R) for right and (L) for Left
2. Insert Eartip into ear canal before foam expands (if you use foam vs. silicone), cord facing forward
3. Hold In Place 5-10 sec; foam will expand and conform to ear canal
4. Go on a audio adventure of Double-Awesome proportions
