Google Docs and Sheets Get Separate Apps
Last week, Geek Beat writer Paul Dixon told you about Google’s new Android and iOS apps. They split up Google Drive into separate, stand-alone apps for Docs and Sheets. This way, they can update the different apps separately and give them additional features without updating EVERYTHING. Now, this week, you may notice that your Drive app goes into read-only mode. It’s looking like they’re moving that direction, so if you want to edit something on your mobile device, you’ll be sent to download the app specific to the type of document you’re working on – documents, spreadsheets or even soon, maybe slide presentations. Just a heads up so you don’t freak out when frantically trying to get work done before a meeting! Go ahead and download those apps!
Running Multiple Google Accounts on Chrome
Speaking of Google. I’ve been meaning to share a little tip with you guys. If you use Chrome and have multiple Google logins, you’re going to love me for this!!! Okay, in reality, you’re going to love our engineer, Kien Tran for this, ‘cause he’s the brilliant one who figured it out!
So I have one Google login for my Gmail. A different one for Google+. A different one for YouTube. And I need access to John’s accounts from time to time. Don’t ask. There’s a reason for all of it! What matters is that I have multiple accounts that I need to access often. And I hate logging in and out. Or even using Google’s fast switch. Because I don’t want to close out of what I’m doing in one account just to do something in another account. The whole process can be very annoying! Am I right, or am I right?
So here’s what you do. In your menu bar, click Chrome. Settings. Further down this page you’ll see a section called Users. Add a User for each account. Login to each account. Then you’ll see a little icon in the upper right corner of the browser. Click that and you have access to all your accounts. Click on one and it’ll open up an ENTIRELY NEW instance of Chrome with that account info. While still having a different window for your other account. Love it!!!!
RunPee Helps with Restroom Breaks
I also love the idea of the RunPee App on iPhone, Windows and Android. I know, I know, it sounds inappropriate! But here’s the deal. Ever since I started the #GeekFit program, I haven’t been able to sit down at the theater and watch a movie. Because Jeff and Todd have us drinking SO much water that…well..you get the idea. When I DO brave it and go to a movie, at some point, I’m wondering… I wonder if I can go sneak to the restroom…but I don’t want to miss anything that’ll leave me lost for the rest of the movie. And seriously, have you ever had that moment where a scene ends and you think, that would have been the perfect opportunity because nothing happened. Like… it was a waste of your time to sit there anyway! You might as well have been doing something else. Anyway, I digress. This app will give you a heads up on moments you can miss without really missing anything. It’s 99 cents.
Add Stuff to Amazon Cart Right from Twitter
Amazon announced something pretty cool today. They’re integrating your Amazon account with Twitter. Link the two sites, and when you see someone on Twitter post a link to something awesome like the BadParkingCards, you just reply back using the Hashtag AmazonCart and that product will be automatically added to your cart. It’s actually pretty brilliant. I add stuff to my cart a lot basically to bookmark it. Then you can go in later and complete the purchase.
