WarDriving for Wi-Fi
I’m constantly running into people who have no idea what “War-Driving” is. We’re talking about geeks who drive around looking for unsecured Wi-Fi access points with tools like NetStumbler or WifiMapper and logging them complete with GPS coordinates.
Dangers of Tapping into an Unsecured Network
There are also those who casually connect to unsecured networks they find when they need one. But beware! That might be a trap, running something like Wireshark to analyze all the unencrypted traffic.
Taking Precautions with Encryption
So be careful what you’re doing when you’re on an unsecure network, or at least use a network encryption tool like TrueCrypt or one of these others to further secure your traffic in the event someone manages to get in.
Wi-Fi Knowledge is Power
Maybe you’d like to know how strong your own Wi-Fi is at home. Once you see where the strength is and where congestion is using a tool like get WiFi Analyzer (Cydia for iPhone version), NetSpot, or Wolf WiFi Pro, you can literally double or triple your speed!
