GeekBeat.TV #34 | Nano as Watch, Gadgety Pool Cleaning, New Goodies for Android, Spoken Facebook with OnStar, 100 Cats in IKEA

September 10, 2010 by John P.

Nano as Watch
Everyone thought of it at the same time during the Apple event: The Nano as a geeky watch. Our most popular blog post of the week even addressed the idea. Now, the first of the Nano watch band accessories has arrived.

Gadgety Pool Cleaning
Having a pool can be lots of fun, but keeping it clean… not so much. The Solar Breeze is a little robot that will swim around your pool, powered by the sun, and take care of that nasty job for you.

New Goodies for Android
Walking Navigation comes to Google Maps for Mobile 4.5 for Android and a new widget for Google Voice brings recent texts and emails to your home screen. And will Apple’s new app review guidelines mean a future for Google Voice on the iPhone?

Spoken Facebook with OnStar
OnStar is adding Facebook integration as well as the ability to have texts read to you and recognize your response by voice.

100 Cats in IKEA
What happens when 100 cats are let loose in IKEA? We’ve got the answer for you! If you want to catch all the cats-at-IKEA action, check it out right here.

I don’t understand the Solar Breeze. All in ground pools come with built in skimmers which remove the debris from the surface. Why pay $500 for a gadget that does the same thing?

I l-o-v-e the Nano watch, and would certainly wear it, but I’d have a problem *listening* to it while on my wrist as the headphone wire would be all over the place and in the way of jogging and exercising. The watch face pictured in the ad is cool, but has anyone heard if it’s more customizable, I kooked all over & still can’t find an answer. The pool cleaner is VERY a cool idea, but for $500.00, I’d have a kid in the neighborhood come in for $15.00 a shot (if I had a pool that is). The marriage of On-Star & facebook is a brilliant idea, a pair well matched. This will make the mobile socializing we love so much safer, more convenient and really fun to use. Cats in IKEA, loved it!!!, but is their a full version of the overnight activity? “B”
