Achieve That Perfect Coffee Temperature with Joulies

March 31, 2011 by Wen Duan

Joulies for coffee and teaI drink tea on a regular basis. As a result of my eagerness to consume my daily prescription of tea, my mouth is often scorched by the steaming beverage. Wounded and defeated, I take the precaution by waiting it out… only to gulp down a luke-warm beverage. Why don’t my beverages love me?

So when I saw Joulies on Kickstarter, I was ecstatic. It was one of those moments where the universe heard my woes and handed me a solution.

Joulies do two key things to maintain the ideal hot beverage temperature:

1.  Absorb extra heat when your beverage is too hot, cooling it down 3 times faster than normally. Joulies work in such a way that your beverage should never be hotter than 140°F

2. Released the stored energy to keep your beverage at the right temperature when the temperature drops.

Made of stainless steel and filled with edible and safe “Phase Change Material”, Joulies are made to last a lifetime. The creators Dave Petrillo and Dave Jackson are currently in the process of trying to mass produce their product with the resources and help of a silverware factory. So hopefully, within time the handmade Joulies  (currently $40 for 5)  will be readily available and cheaper!

I really love the idea and the design! I wonder if they could use the same concept to create a stainless steel thermos with the “Phase Change Material.” Therefore, creating the perfect thermos and diminishing my fear of burns.
