Apogee Duet 2 Review

July 10, 2012 by Mark Zamora

The Apogee Duet 2 brings high-end audio input/output in a device that’s not only plug and play but will only cost you around $595.

Unboxing the Apogee Duet 2

Inside the packaging, you’ll find a beautiful piece of equipment. It fits right in with your Mac set-up and any other professional equipment you may have. One other thing we noticed was how simple the device is to use. Install some software and it works right out of the box! Apogee earns bonus points because for such high-end equipment, it doesn’t get any more simple than this!

Sizing up the Duet 2

We were also astonished at how much larger the Apogee was than expected. However, the Apogee Duet 2 is a complete package. It comes with the proper pre-amps to use even the best condensor microphones in either of the 2 XLR/Quarter-Inch inputs and you can use upto 4 channels for output thanks to dual-stereo outs which give a clean and clear signal.

The Apogee Duet 2 is REALLY Simple

The simplicity of design also falls in line with the use of the device itself. It is basically plug and play and works with anything you need, from GarageBand to ProTools. The hardware interface involves a wheel and 2 customizable buttons which can allow you to control many things, from phantom power, headphone/output volume and more.

Overall, this is a worth-while package. It’s a bit higher priced for the hobbyist consumer, but if you’re looking for some high-end input/output hardware then the Apogee Duet 2 is definitely worth a look!
