Want one of those free iPhone 4 cases Steve Jobs offered in his press conference last Friday? Well, today is the day the program launches and like everything else, there’s an app for that.
The free cases must be ordered through a new app on the the App Store, which will only install to an iPhone 4. The app description carries some timing restrictions to keep in mind: “All iPhone 4 purchases must be made by September 30, 2010, to qualify for this program. For iPhone 4 purchases made before July 23, 2010, you must apply no later than August 22, 2010; otherwise, you must apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase.”
The cases are being offered as a fix to the issue of dropped calls that can occur when the user’s hand comes into contact with the iPhone 4’s new wrap-around antenna.
Apple is offering both their own Bumper case and other third-party cases. The Bumpers are expected to go fast, so if you want one and have an iPhone 4, get the app and place your order quickly.

Update: Just like buying a Model T from Henry Ford, those seeking free cases can get them in any color as long as it’s black. More colorful cases aren’t included in the offer. Third party manufacturers include Belkin, Griffin, Incase and Spek.
