If you had planned to just drop by your local Apple Store and pick up an iPhone 4S, you might want to let them know you’re coming. A change to Apple’s How to Buy page, now says the phone is available by reservation only, not for drop-in purchasers. This is a likely indicator that the weekend’s sales (in which the phone moved 4 million units) have begun to deplete store stocks. But the fact that stores still have phones in stock on the fourth day of busy sales is an impressive sign that Apple was better prepared than in previous years when supplies ran dry much more quickly.
