Blackfire Receives Red Dot Design Award, Clamplight Lantern Recognized for its Superior Design

Innovative LED lantern chosen by 40-member expert panel as the leader in their category

New York, NY – (March 25, 2014) – Blackfire, the innovation leader for the LED flashlight industry, is a winner in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014 category. Blackfire was judged by international experts and evaluated as one out of 4,815 entries from 53 countries worldwide. Blackfire’s Clamplight Lantern competed along entrants, showcasing their innovative, ingenious, and world class design for one of the most sought-after quality marks for excellent design, the Red Dot. Designed in cooperation with A2 Product Development, Clamplight Lantern is now the benchmark for what a lantern should be.

The Clamplight Lantern provides ultimate functionality without foregoing design quality. Using Blackfire’s proprietary technology it is the world’s first lantern that can be clamped to tents, tree branches and tackle boxes. A pivoting head shines light in all directions, so users are never left in the dark, while a hanging hook allows the Clamplight Lantern to hang in from a tent hook. In addition, the Clamplight Lantern doubles as a flashlight. Users can easily switch between low, hi, and strobe lantern mode, as well as go into flashlight mode at the touch of a button. Equipped with separate CREE LED’s and up to 260 lumens, the Clamplight Lantern delivers an unparalleled level of optics. Powered by three AA batteries, the product is international standard IPX4 storm proof.

“We are appreciative and inspired with the news of being awarded the coveted Red Dot Design Award,” says Bruce Ancona, CEO of Blackfire. “Year after year, Red Dot selects who the pioneers and innovators in the design industry are. Since its inception, Blackfire’s approach has been to create products that solve user problems, putting design and quality at the forefront, and so it’s a true honour to be recognized by the most prestigious design competition in the world for it.”

On July 7, 2014, the highlight of the internationally renowned product competition will be celebrated in Essen, Germany: the presentation of the acclaimed Red Dot during the traditional Red Dot Gala and subsequent Designers’ Night. On that evening, roughly 1,200 guests from around the world gather in Essen in order to experience the awards ceremony. In the course of the party in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, the winners’ exhibition will also be opened, presenting the award-winning product Clamplight Lantern to a wide audience for four weeks before it enters the museum’s permanent exhibition.

“The 40 experts assessed the quality of the entries with the utmost care and attention. Due to their backgrounds, they also assessed the special cultural aspects of the designs from 53 countries,” says Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of Red Dot. “But only the best products receive an award from the jury. The winners can be proud of their achievements – with their entries, they stood out from the rest and were able to pass the test in front of the critical eyes of the experts. This success will be perceptible during the Red Dot Gala, when the laureates will receive the recognition of the international audience.”

The Clamplight Lantern is now available at www.blackfire-usa.com and various retailers, including Academy, EMS, REI, Home Hardware, and Amazon with an MSRP of $44.99.
