John and Rene talked with Pioneer Ted about the AVIC-8000NEX, their new after-market radio replacement that adds some really cool technology to your car. The AVIC-8000NEX is basically a smart touchscreen radio replacement for media and navigation, which offers offline points of interest, Pandora, SiriusXM, including channel art and album art from SiriusXM. It’s powered by a multi-core processor, 1 gig of RAM, and has onboard storage. It’s really closer to a smartphone or tablet than a traditional radio.
It’s capable of interfacing with your phone or tablet in several ways. It does have bluetooth for interfacing with your device, and can also connect via microUSB, lightning, 30-pin doc connector, MHL, or HDMI input. An additional component can allow the AVIC-8000NEX to talk to the car itself to display tire pressure levels, engine details, service reports and other data that’s typically only available to the manufacturer’s stock radios.
The AVIC-8000NEX will retail for $1400, and will be available in March.
