#CESlive: Scan Your World with a Structure Sensor

January 16, 2014 by Dexter

Cali and Rene talk to Jeff Powers and Adam Rodnitzky of Structure about their Sensor product. It’s the first 3D sensor for mobile devices; it attaches easily to iPads (sorry, no Android) to let you do all kinds of 3D scanning, indoor mapping and augmented reality gaming. The camera is infrared, and can do a rough maximum of about 1mm of accuracy. Unlike a lot of scanners, it can scale up to objects the size of a room. They showed off the iPad scanning interface, and it looks ridiculously simple to use. The output can be sent directly to a 3D printer, or exported to CAD for editing and manipulation.
