Fujitsu Demonstrates Gorgeous Next-Generation Color e-Ink Display

July 12, 2011 by Gord McLeod

Fujitsu's Next Generation Color E-Ink

We’re big fans of eReaders here at GeekBeat, as I’m sure many of you are, so this story was a welcome sight in several respects. Fujitsu has shown off its next generation of color e-Ink displays, the FLEPia. Capable of displaying 4,096 colors at 0.7 seconds for a screen refresh, this technology shows gorgeous color with good brightness and contrast.

They say the same technology can produce a full-color display, but that a trade-off exists between the number of colors and the refresh speed, and pushing full color slows the device down significantly. Compromise or not, this looks fantastic and paints a rosy picture for the future of e-Ink displays. Check the video for more.
