Here’s some good news for Android Wear users. Google has today announced a significant update to the platform which includes the rollout of dozens of new watch faces, and an official Watch Face API, allowing developers to create and release their own custom designs.
You can find the new watch faces in a new section of the Google Play Store, from where they can be downloaded just like apps. To make the process as smooth as possible, Google has also updated the smartphone version of the Android Wear app – allowing you to browse, download and change watch faces quickly and easily.
There’s already a wide range of different styles to choose from – ranging from Despicable Me, Plants vs. Zombies, and Pac-Man themed designs to more elegant offerings by Porsche, Behance, and Rebecca Minkoff.
I’ve always loved the ability to install third-party watch faces on my Pebble smartwatch, so I’m pleased to see Google bring this level of customizability to Android Wear.
