Google Maps and Waze Begin to Tie In Services

August 20, 2013 by Benjamin J. Roethig

Waze in Google MapsTwo months ago Google bought Israeli mapping company Waze. Google promised that while Google Maps and Waze would remain separate, they would collaborate and incorporate each other’s features. Well, that didn’t last take long at all. It’s paying off for both much sooner than anyone would have thought.

For Google Maps fans, the Mobile Apps (Android and iOS) will now include Waze user-generated traffic reports. While the Google Maps will not show account information like the more social-focused Waze, you will still earn Waze points. Waze might be the service getting the better of this first round of feature swaps. It will now have full Google search support in-app, though fortunately not at the expense of those options like Foursquare and Yelp. The Waze Map Editor will now include access to Google satellite maps and Street View.

So, Google Maps users, do you have the new version and are you excited about Waze traffic data? Waze users, do you like the new tie-ins to Google services? Leave a comment below or hit us up on our G+, Twitter, and even Facebook accounts.
