Hexoskin Shirts are Trans-Continental Training Tool for Athletes

November 18, 2014 by Benjamin J. Roethig

Hexoskin was created using technology developed with the help of NASA and the Canadian Space Agency. Now the biometric shirts are being used to help athletes in this world. The technology helps trainers like Paul Gagne of Montreal monitor his athletes anywhere in the world. He trains the trio of sisters Justine, Chloe, and Maime Dufour-Lapointe – the first two took the gold and silver medals for Canada in the Sochi Olympics. Using the 42,000 data points, Gagne is able to access the data and help his athletes train even if they aren’t in the same place.

The Hexoskin shirts start at $399 for the starter kit and $169 for additional shirts. They are available in men’s small though 3XL and women’s in extra small through extra large.

Hexoskin Outfits Trainers with the World’s First Transcontinental Training Tool

MONTREAL- November 18, 2014- Olympians Justine, Chloe and Maxime Dufour-Lapointe are world travelers. Natives of Montreal, the freestyle skiing sisters represented Canada in the Sochi Olympics this past winter and have trained in snowy paradises all over the world. One of their trainers, Paul Gagne, is always with them, even when they are thousands of miles apart.

The Dufour-Lapointe sisters are a shining example of a new trend in sports training, in which, athletes are utilizing modern technology more than ever to stay connected to their trainers. The trio wear the groundbreaking Hexoskin Biometric Smart Shirt throughout their training sessions. By having the Olympians wear the Hexoskin shirt, Gagne is able to see their biometric data in real-time, allowing him to train the sisters right from Quebec, regardless of their location.

One significant advantage of training with the Hexoskin Biometric Smart Shirt is that it eliminates the need for trainers and athletes to be in the same room. Due to the advanced nature of Hexoskin’s capabilities, transcontinental training sessions are becoming commonplace.

I get the same instant feedback as if I am present with them in the gym or in competition, said Gagne. Having this feedback during their competition also helps me to have a better comprehension of the demands of their sport and modify if needed their training preparation, and I can do this from anywhere.

The metrics that trainers receive from the Hexoskin Biometric Smart Shirt are not the types of data yielded from an average wearable device. The innovative shirt records over 42,000 data points per minute and includes body metrics such as heart rate recovery, heart rate variability, breathing rate, breathing volume, activity level, acceleration, and cadence.

By giving me constant feedback on how their bodies are responding to the training and competition demands, it enables me to modify and optimize my training methods to help the athletes achieve a greater level of performance and avoid overtraining, according to Gagne, whose training techniques helped lead Justine and Chloe to Gold and Silver medals respectively in the Sochi Olympics for Moguls.

Essentially a wearable precision lab, Hexoskin presents its users with the power of tracking lab-quality metrics in the context where performance truly matters. Hexoskin, with the help of NASA and the Canadian Space Agency, has created sensors that are made of textile, leaving close to no hardware in the shirt. There is a small Bluetooth device that is connected to the fabric sensors and placed in the shirts built-in side pocket during activity and sleep. This construction makes the shirt extremely light and comfortable, while providing users with measurements they simply cannot receive from regular fitness trackers.

Hexoskin is available in both mens (small to 3X) and womens (x-small to XL) styles. The Hexoskin Starter Kit, which includes the Smart Shirt and the Bluetooth device, is $399 on Hexoskin.com. Additional Smart Shirts are also available on Hexoskin.com for $169.
