Wow! Seems like we just opened the Geek House and it’s already time for the holidays! And you know what that means… Gift Guide time!!! This is the time of year where we show you the products we use and love and think will make great gifts for YOUR loved ones! Or… maybe for you to put on your own list. Don’t worry… we’re not judging….
Samsung Note 4 – $300 with Contract
First and foremost. O.M.G. I love my Samsung Note 4! As you guys know, we had our hands on it before the big launch in Germany. I knew I loved it then, but now that all my apps are on it and I’m using it daily… well, suffice it to say, no one can pry this thing out of my hands! The multitasking features. The improved stylus. The better camera with optical zoom. It’s top of the line! So if you’re looking for a new phone this holiday… just ask me any questions you have and I’ll be happy to answer what I can to help you make the right decision for YOUR personal life. Regardless of if it’s the Note 4 or a Windows phone or an iPhone. We all have our workflows and preferences. And of course, you can always get the opinions of your fellow geeks in the chatroom or on the Google+ Geeks community!
RavPower Qi Wireless Charger – $60
Now on to a gift that every road warrior will get a charge out of… and I mean that literally! John P. and the rest of our crew were so impressed with RavPower’s Qi Wireless Charger (which also doubles as a 4800 Milliamp-Hour Battery) that we gave it a rare Geek Beat Editor’s Choice award. These retail for $99 but when I last checked Amazon they were less than $60 with free shipping!
Tylt Vu Wireless Charger – $60
Wondering what Qi wireless charger I have on my desk for my Note 4? The $60 Tylt Vu! It lets me watch for notifications while charging and comes in four colors. I chose red, by the way.
Tylt Energi Backpack – $150
Once it’s time for me and my Note 4 to hit the road, I pop it into my Tylt Energi Backpack. At $150, it’s not the most inexpensive bag on the market, but I’ve found it to be indispensable. Besides a built-in battery for charging, the Tylt Energi is loaded with storage compartments, with cable management in mind, and is carry-on friendly. (Review)
Tylt Dual-USB Car Charger – $15-$20
Once I’m in the car, I depend on my Tylt Dual USB car charger for power. At $15-$20 these are great stocking stuffers! And yes. With all this gear, I realize that there really is no excuse for me to NOT have charged devices. Somehow it still happens, but that’s just me, I guess…
MobileVision 6 Device Charging Station MV-UNI-6 – $65-$80
Whether a Geek on the Go is home or at the office, finding enough outlets for chargers, for all of your devices is a common problem. And… you don’t want to get tangled up in cables either! That’s what makes the MobileVision’s Six-Device Charging Station such a great gift. Not only can you plop an assortment of six mobile devices into its handy tray… it has a clutter-free design that keeps all those pesky charging cables tucked neatly inside and out of the way! Just under $80 on Amazon with free shipping… or $65 (plus shipping) direct from the manufacturer. (Review)
Henge Docks Gravitas iPhone/iPad Dock – $69 – $89
If you’re an iPad or iPhone user and really hate clutter, the Gravitas from Henge Docks might be a better gift. This heavy (2.6 pound) zinc metal alloy dock holds a single iDevice like a work of art and has docking inserts for almost every portable Apple device out there. They’ll be shipping with iPhone 6 docking inserts in mid-November. A couple of important points to consider: the “Gravitas” doesn’t accept iPhones or iPads in cases AND you’ll need to know whether your recipient will be plugging this docking station into a newer Apple device via a Lightning cable or an older 30-pin model. The Gravitas with 30-pin cable was not available on Amazon when last we checked but can be ordered directly from the manufacturer for $69 plus shipping. The Lightning model is available for the same price from the manufacturer or $89 with free shipping on Amazon. (Review)
KUBI Portable Telepresence Robotic Stand – $500
To keep in touch with Geeks on the go, consider the Kubi tabletop telepresence unit. At $500 it’s our most expensive mobile gift, but once you snap on a 7 to 10inch iPad, Android, or Windows tablet with a front-facing camera, your video chats will take on an entirely new feeling. As long as the person on the other end has the Kubi app, they can swivel or tilt the camera to look around the room as they chat. This is great for remote teams, and would also be a great gift for parents away from children, grandparents in a distant city, or family members on overseas assignments. (Review)
WHOOSH Screen Cleaning Kit – $10
And…lastly… when you’re constantly on the move, you need to keep all your devices clean! And for that, we all love Woosh cleaner! For your phones, computer screens, tablets… Whoosh is safe and awesome! You can even spray it in your mouth…. why? I don’t know. But you can. I even use it on my whiteboards! The whiteboard UpDesk and my wall whiteboard.
