HTC RE Camera – First Look!

May 14, 2015 by John P.

John P. got his hands on a new RE camera, from HTC. This is the first video to come out of the camcorder, and it’s actually pretty acceptable! (Talent excluded.)

The cameras are available on Amazon for $139, and can also be found at Best Buy and other retailers.

The camcorder captures 1080p video at 30 frames per second, and although the sensor and lens are too small for really great low light shots, it still does an acceptable job indoors, even considering bright to dark transitions, and with some strange backlighting.

The battery is good for about 1,200 shots, or 1 hour 40 minutes of video, and you could always plug in an external battery to the USB port to keep it going. Although it comes with an 8GB micro SD card, you can swap in up to a 128GB card for endless recording.

And lest I forget, the camera is waterproof! Natively (as in straight out of the box) its rated for up to 1 Meter and 30 minutes of submersion. But there is also a waterproofing cap you can get to extend those capabilities, as well as a handsfree mount and even a windshield mount.
