Improve Your Home Security with Your Phone Using DoorBot

December 11, 2012 by Jon Avalon

Doorbot Answered

Away from home a lot? Too busy to catch the delivery man? Or just want to bring your doorbell into the 21st century? Say hello to the DoorBot, and see who’s at the door with your phone!

The DoorBot is an app and Wi-Fi enabled doorbell system with a video camera and infrared so you can see who is knocking day or night. The device itself is made of an weather-resistant aluminum enclosure, and runs on just four AA batteries that can provide power for a year. The DoorBot is also compatible with the Lockitron, a wireless mechanism to unlock your door with an app. So you can make answering and opening the door easier than ever. As the site says, “‘Recent research shows that 91% of people keep their phone within 3 feet, 24 hours a day,’ (Morgan Stanley) making it the perfect device for monitoring your front door.”

Funding

Edison Junior, the company behind the DoorBot is looking to raise at least $250,000 to make it a reality. So far, $58,208 has been raised with fewer than 40 days left. The project is offering the DoorBot itself for $169 and $319 for a DoorBot & Lockitron combo.

Right now the DoorBot is just in the concept stages, but there is word that a prototype will be available to see at next month’s CES.
