Instagram Launches New Hyperlapse iOS App for Creating Time Lapse Videos

August 26, 2014 by giovanni

Hyperlapse from Instagram

Earlier today, Instagram announced the launch of a new standalone app for iOS devices that allows you to capture high-quality time lapse videos – even while you are moving.

While capturing time lapse video traditionally requires you to hold your camera or smartphone still while you shoot, Hyperlapse uses Instagram’s stabilization technology in conjunction with your device’s gyroscope to allow you to create moving cinematic-style time lapse videos. And you don’t need to use a tripod or expensive equipment either.

Instagram says the app has been designed to be as easy to use as possible. On launch, the camera is ready to use. All you need to do is tap to start and stop recording, and then choose a playback speed between 1x and 12x.

You don’t need an Instagram account to use the app, and the videos you capture can be saved to, and shared from your camera roll.

The best way to get an idea of the kind of results you can expect from Hyperlapse, is by taking a look at these example videos:

Hyperlapse is compatible with iPhones, iPads and iPod touches running iOS 7 or above, and is available to download for free from the App Store today.

We’d love to hear what you think of this new app. You can let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment below, via the usual social networks, or on our forums.
