Some iPod Nano 6th generation owners felt a little left out when Apple announced the new product lineup, showing off the fancy new clock faces and new interactions of the 7th generation of the devices. Turns out that was unnecessary.
News of this got a little lost in the wake of the iOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion updates yesterday, but the iPod Nano 6th Generation got an update too, and it brings most of the 7th generation functionality along with it. You’ll get:
- New clock faces, yes, including Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
- New clock stopwatch and timer functionality.
- Large icons that take up most of the screen, with the option to return to the 6th generation layout of 4 smaller icons.
- Improved customization options so you can turn off icons for those features of the device you don’t use.
Just about the only thing you don’t get are those features dependent on the new hardware, such as the enhanced fitness feature that no longer requires external sensors/receivers on 7th gen devices. If you can live without that, the remainder of 7th generation glory is just an update away – and the Nano update was a quick and simple breeze compared to the iOS update nightmare so many experienced yesterday.
