Outlaw Fasteners Invents a Better Screw
I don’t know how I missed it, because I’ve never seen so much talk of stripping and screwing as went on with Outlaw’s Deck Screw Kickstarter.
What did you think I was talking about?
Apparently I missed the Kickstarter, which funded in October with over $100K worth of orders, that’s going to allow people to really screw their decks well! Outlaw has invented a new screw hole that’s three levels deep on long screws, and two levels deep for shorter screws. The hole is hexagonal shaped, meaning that with the three level version there are 18 flat surfaces to really grip the driver for ultimate torque and no stripping involved!
The screws have all sorts of other features, like being extra sharp, so there is no pre-drilling of holes needed, as well as being coated for protection from the elements, and being self cleaning!
It sounds like there’s never been a better time to get your self-cleaning, hard screwing, no stripping, Outlaw on! You can pre-order a box of 10 at OutlawFasteners.com.
Planting with a Shotgun?
Speaking of Kickstarter projects, anyone know what ever happened with the Flower Shell Indiegogo project? It was a new invention for shotgun shells filled with flower seeds. Instead of having to dig and get all dirty, you just walk around peppering the ground with your shotgun to “plant” seeds!
It was an Indiegogo project back in december that was supposed to be funding in less than 2 days, but then it disappeared? I’m guessing Indiegogo might have made them pull it down because it was… well, explosive? But seriously, that is the only way I’m going to get a green thumb, so I wish they’d bring it back.
Though I’m not sure my neighbors would appreciate it!
Pizza Good for Three Years!
The team used humectants (ingredients like sugars, salts and syrups) to keep the crust from being soggy and changed the acidity of the sauce, dough and cheese to prevent bacterial growth.
Jill Bates, who runs the taste lab, described it like this, “It pretty much tastes just like a typical pan pizza that you would make at home and take out of the oven or the toaster oven.”
LaCie Puts 5TB in a Single Drive
Speaking of tasty! Today LaCie announced the release of their new 5TB external drive units. And if you’re doing the math in your head trying to figure out what combination of internal drives it uses to get to 5TB you can stop now. That’s a single giant 5TB drive!
I haven’t even seen 5TB drives available for purchase on the market yet, so this is a big deal. It’s a lot of storage in a small package and with less power consumption than would otherwise take to achieve the same density. At $449 for a thunderbolt connected unit, the 5TB drive is probably around $300 for the actual drive and $150 for the housing? So maybe when we see the 5TB drives hit Amazon they’ll be in the $350ish range? I’ll be keeping my eyes out for that one.
Geek Beat News You Need to Know
A few important updates:
First, OK, we only gave you guys a week to order the Geek Beat T-shirts before we took it down. We’re sorry! That was wrong of us! Several people just couldn’t do it that quickly because some of you guys apparently store up episodes and then binge watch the show! I don’t blame you, I do the same thing on Netflix. (netflix.com/geekbeat for 30 days free) So we’ve reopened the ordering at geekbeat.tv/tshirt-orders. SERIOUSLY, on Monday morning the 24th the order gets released and the purchasing shuts down for at least a while. We’ve gotta get this done!
Also, we told you guys about the last oversized batch of Bad Parking Cards we found, and we put up an order form at geekbeat.tv/badparking but we told you we couldn’t do International shipping on those. However, we found a way. So if you were wanting them shipped to some foreign country like Austrailia, or New Jersey, you can get them now. But ONLY at geekbeat.tv/badparking, not at badparkingcards.com which sends you to Amazon. And ONLY until the last of the overstuffed batch runs out. Which will be any minute now.
Be sure to tune in for our LIVE Samsung Unpacked coverage on Feb 24th at 2 PM Eastern! We’re going to be doing it with Tom Merritt, so you won’t want to miss it!
One last VERY BIG thing! Whatever you do, don’t miss episode 800! That is next TUESDAY! We’ve got some BIG news we’re going to be releasing. In fact, the biggest news in the history of the company! No kidding. So be prepared…
