MyCharge Hub 6000 - Cables

MyCharge HUB 6000 Review

July 18, 2013 by Kien Tran

Coming off the success of their Peak battery pack, MyCharge brings Lightning cable compatibility with their new HUB series of battery systems.

Two years ago, MyCharge brought us the Peak 6000, which was a great charger for iOS devices that included a built in 30-pin Apple Dock connector as well as standard AC prongs allowing you to recharge the battery simply by attaching it to the wall.

With the advent of the Lightning connection and the deprecation of the Dock connector, MyCharge has had to update their lines to accommodate. This brings us their new HUB 6000 and HUB 9000 battery systems containing 6000mAh and 9000mAh respectively.

MyCharge Hub 6000 - Cables

MyCharge Hub 6000 – Provides built in Lightning and Micro-USB Cables

The HUB chargers can charge three devices at a time using the built in Lightning cable, micro-USB cable, and regular USB port. While the Lightning cable and USB ports can supply 2.1A of power, the micro-USB only supports 1.0A of power, and combined, the HUB only provides 3.1A of total power. Charging three devices at once will work, but it just won’t be as efficient as only charging two.

Like its predecessor, the HUB cleverly includes standard AC wall prongs for fast recharging of the battery. The HUB, like the Peak, will also charge attached devices and itself at the same time, eliminating the need to bring your own USB wall chargers.

MyCharge Hub 6000 - Comparison

MyCharge Hub 6000 – Slightly smaller to the previous Peak 6000

The new HUB is slightly smaller than the older Peak unit, and looses the seldom used USB charger cable you could use to charge via your laptop. Instead, the HUB is a bit more rounded in design and is comfortable to hold in your hand alone. When paired with a device such as a phone though, the curves of the HUB make it awkward to hold flat against your mobile device.

In my travels and work, I found that the MyCharge was a device I used constantly. Being able to just plug it into the wall without the need to bring additional USB wall chargers or cables is immensely useful. Now with the new HUB with Lightning cables, it’s still as useful and great to have!

You can find the HUB 6000, 9000 (and the much smaller 3000mAh version that does not have wall prongs) online at various retailers.
