Gift Guides Headed Your Way
The holidays are on their way, and we’re prepping the Geek Beat Holiday Gift Guides! We want to make sure you have plenty of time to get everything you want, so the first one will be headed your way next Monday. If you have suggestions for what we should include, be sure to let us know!
Boston Conference and Meetup
We’ll be in Boston later this month to speak at the Ultimate Developer Event. I look forward to seeing you guys there! Lots of great sessions – and you can get 10% off by using code UDEme. We’ll have a meetup, too – details on that coming soon.
Piggy Banks Get an Upgrade
Quirky has brought the piggy bank into the 21st Century. The Porkfolio is connected to a mobile app, so when you hear the cha-ching of dropping in coins, you can also SEE the money increasing. This can help a kid begin learning the process of financial management by setting goals.
Walk Your Dog Hands-Free with Lishinu
One of the most frustrating things about dog leashes is the process of constantly adjusting the length of the leash for your dog and having to keep one hand free to dedicate to the leash. Lishinu goes on your wrist and leaves your hands free. The weight is roughly equivalent to a watch and it allows you to set the furthest distance your dog can go, and it won’t allow him to go past that distance and run into the street, for example.
Los Angeles Plans Citywide WiFi and Fiber
The city council in Los Angeles is determined to get free WiFi available EVERYWHERE around the city. They’re asking for proposals to have providers wire up every single house, business and government building in LA so that you can have speeds from 2 megabits per second up to a gigabit.
Did Quirky really name a child’s piggy bank after the name for a book or list of sexual conquests? Look up ‘porkfolio’ (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=porkfolio).
