Upgraded Garage and All-New Solar Power System
As the final part of the remodel of my new house, we’re putting in an expanded garage and a huge rooftop solar power system.
Upgraded Electrical System for Power Hungry Tools
I’ll be running a lot of electricity hungry gear in the garage (like all my welding equipment) so we’re putting in special 220 volt lines to handle it all. We’re even planning ahead for electric car chargers.
New Roof Under the New Solar Panels
This installation will involve 39 solar panels in five rows across the roof. We had to do lots of inspections and approvals to insure the roof was strong enough. And we decided that the roof needed to be redone so it would last as long as the solar installation going on top of it.
Getting Topside with Rooftop Hatches
Since we have an entirely flat roof, it made sense to put in a couple of rooftop hatches to make getting topside easier.
Storage Space Over the Garage
As part of the remodel of the garage, I put in an attic, with lots of storage space, and a pull-down staircase for easy access. There’s also going to be a cooling and ventilation fan installed to keep the garage comfortable.
Planning for Entertainment Gear
We’re putting in all the jacks and wiring to support a big wall-mounted TV I can watch while I’m in the garage, and I’ll be running a Sonos sound system through the space.
