QNAP Launches TS-ECx80U-RP Series of Turbo NAS Systems for Business

June 23, 2014 by Benjamin J. Roethig

Business customers, you’re getting new QNAPs in the TS-ECx80U-RP. That “x” stands for the number of drive bays which they are offered, of which there are 8-24, and that U means these are rack mounted machines. The 8 and 12-bay machines are 2U, the 16-bay 3U, and the 24-bay 4U. All are powered by a 3.4GHz quad core Intel Xeon CPUs, feature 4GB of DDR3 ECC memory, 4 gigabit Ethernet slots, 2 internal cache ports, 2 PCI-E slots for add-on cards, and 4 external USB 3.0 ports. They are also upgradable to 10 gigabit Ethernet. The hard drive bays will fit either 3.5″ or 2.5″ form factor drives and can work with either mechanical hard drives or SSDs.

The software suite is business-ready and controllable by a custom software development expert in a multiple OS environment both on and off site. They are ready for leading virtualization software including VMware V-Sphere, Citrix XenServer, and Microsoft Hyper-V. They also have tools for back-up, including native Time Machine support for Macs and NetBak Replicator for Windows computers. In addition there is support for off-site backup to leading cloud providers. Most of all, the functionality of QNAP and the QTS operating system can be enhanced by apps in the QNAP App Center.

The TS-ECx80U-RP Series of Turbo NAS devices are available for purchase now. Pricing depends on configuration.

QNAP Launches High-Performance & Scalable Turbo NAS TS-ECx80U-RP Series with Intel Xeon CPU for Business

Taipei, Taiwan, June 23, 2014 – QNAP® Systems, Inc. today officially launched four new business-class Turbo NAS models: TS-EC880U-RP, TS-EC1280U-RP, TS-EC1680U-RP, and TS-EC2480U-RP. Delivering high-performance, extreme scalability options and a wide array of applications to drive businesses, these models easily fulfill mission-critical storage needs of businesses, with persistent throughput to balance resource-demanding applications.

Equipped with a Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® 3.4GHz processor, 4GB DDR3 ECC RAM and with 10GbE-readiness and SSD caching options (including up to two internal mSATA slots), these models are capable of providing up to 3,700 MB/s throughput and 410,000 IOPS to boost the workflow of IOPS-demanding applications such as virtualization and data center deployment. With a scalable design, administrators can gradually expand their total storage to over 680TB raw capacity (depends on models) on demand by connecting multiple QNAP RAID expansion enclosures (REXP-1600U-RP and REXP-1200U-RP). With this flexibility, businesses can be confident that these models will suit their storage requirements both now and in the future.

“In order to smooth business growth, companies need a great solution with high-performance hardware and business-class software to support their day-to-day operations as well as the scalability options to ensure their growth not hampered by lack of data storage,” said David Tsao, product manager of QNAP. “With the support of high-capacity, low-cost SATA hard drives for large data archiving and high-speed, and high stability SSDs for I/O-intensive operations, these new Turbo NAS models provide a wide range of options to assist businesses to meet all of their storage requirements.”

With the new IT Management Station (powered by Mandriva® Pulse) the TS-ECx80U-RP series provides an IT system management solution to simplify daily tasks and IT asset management for businesses of all sizes. With the IT Management Station, businesses can centralize their management of multi-OS and multi-site IT assets with numerous business applications including comprehensive inventory, centralized software deployment & updates, imaging, remote management and support, backup & restore, and more.

Supporting major virtualization solutions in the market, the new TS-ECx80U-RP series is proven to be a reliable storage solution for server virtualization with the support of VMware® vSphere™ 5.5 and Citrix® XenServer™, and the compatibility with Microsoft® Hyper-V™ and Windows Server 2012. In addition, the support of VMware VAAI, QNAP vSphere Client plug-in, Microsoft ODX, and QNAP SMI-S provider further enhances the efficiency of operations and management in virtualization applications.

The new models offer flexible backup and recovery solutions. Windows and Mac users can use the QNAP NetBak Replicator utility and Apple Time Machine respectively to easily back up data. Disaster recovery solutions include Real-time Remote Replication (RTRR) for real-time or scheduled data replication and backup to cloud storage including Amazon® S3, Amazon Glacier, Microsoft® Azure, ElephantDrive®, Symform® and Google® Drive. Third-party backup software such as Veeam® Backup & Replication and Acronis® True Image are also supported, making the TS-ECx80U-RP series great foundation to secure valuable business data.

The cross-platform file sharing for Windows®, Mac®, and Linux/UNIX users makes the new models ideal centralized storage solutions for SMBs with a large number of users. The Windows AD and LDAP directory services greatly save IT administrators’ time and effort in account setup. The Windows ACL (Access Control List) feature offers sophisticated shared folder permission settings that simplifies IT management and privilege control.

The QNAP App Center provides over a hundred of free apps for backup, content management, communication, and more developed by QNAP and 3rd party developers that can be installed on demand to increase the functionalities of Turbo NAS.
