Quantum effects usually have a certain uncertainty associated with them, but this technology is an exception. Electroluminescent quantum dot LED (QLED) nanotechnology is a highly promising new display technology that promises to blow OLED displays out of the water entirely.
Among the things that make it stand out, according to QD Vision: Higher luminance efficiency than OLEDs by about 30-40% at the same color point, double the energy efficiency, lower production costs, and the ability to print the displays on ultra-thin, transparent and flexible media.
This is technology that’s still being developed, so don’t expect to see it in next year’s generation of TVs, computers or smart phones, but with a laundry list of advantages that long, I would expect manufacturers to take a lot of interest in seeing this reach maturity quickly.
