Raspberry Pi: $35 Linux Computer to Release This Month!

February 9, 2012 by Jon Avalon

Got room for more Raspberry Pi?

Last year we reported about the compact Linux box the size of a thumb drive that was to be priced under $30. That thumb drive now has evolved to just only the size of a deck of cards or an iPhone, and will still sport the same 700MHz ARM11 CPU but with the choice of models with 256MB ($35) or 128MB ($25) of RAM. It will also have the essentials, such as RCA Video out, Audio out, USB 2.0, Ethernet, HDMI, an SD card slot and micro usb power.

Ideally, this was considered for children for educational purposes, similar the One Laptop Per Child concept but for the fraction of the cost.

Release Date

According to a statement issued by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, the $35 model will probably be available for purchase by the end of the month (the 20th) unless there are additional production delays.

For you Linux lovers out there, are you in for one? Could strike as a cheap file server, media center box or whatever you dream to use it for. Either way i am ready to click buy now!
