Back at #CESLive we chatted with HISY (pronounced like High-C, not like hiss-y), about their product. We all know the need to take the ultimate selfie. Okay maybe not, but we all need a tool that makes you not have to reach the shutter button on your screen. It needs to be easy to use, reliable, inexpensive, and not stick out like a sore thumb. HISY is all of those, and I’m going to tell you all about it.
Don’t let HISY’s talk about selfies scare you off. This a good general purpose Bluetooth shutter release for iOS. They’re marketing it as a hip selfie tool because selfies are popular with a lot of smartphone buyers, and it’s just good business. I’m not going to take that many selfies with it, but I’m going to take a lot of pictures that aren’t selfies. So will you. In addition to the infamous duckface pictures, HISY is also great at video and group shots and everything else. It excels at that. I’ve found HISY to be very reliable in triggering both stills and video, and pairing was a breeze. It’ll work with any app that supports the volume button shutter on iOS. It’s absolutely app agnostic. However, some popular apps like Instagram do not yet support the shutter. Its not HISY’s fault in the least, but it’s something you have to be aware of. It comes with a tether to hook into your iPhone or iPad’s headphone port. If that isn’t enough, it’s got a lithium battery that will last over a year with you taking 100 shots every day for that year. For most years, you won’t be worried about that battery for a loooooooong time.
The only thing wrong with it is that it’s iOS only… and they fixed that with launching an Android sister to the HISY called the HALO.
At $25, it’s close to half the price of its competition. And you can get it for even less at Amazon. In black, white, aqua, red, and lime green it matches your iDevice to boot.
You can’t find a better or more reliable iOS camera remote shutter for the money. In fact, you can’t find another iOS remote shutter at this price range either, reliable or otherwise. HISY is a vital piece of gear you need for your bag if you shoot photos or video with an iPhone or iPad. Who knows it might even get me to take some selfies… okay, maybe not.
