Many of you are familiar with iFrogz, they make loads of audio accessories including the EarPollution series of headphones. I recently went hands on with the EarPollution: Evolution buds and have given them a full-on evaluation so if you’re in the market for a new pair that provides clean sound at a relatively good price, these might be the ones for you.
First off, iFrogz uses the design of the buds themselves as their primary selling point. Even before reading the site and description, I noticed they are designed to be un-intrusive. The right-angle jack makes it so the buds are compact and the in-ear canal style makes them fit snugly. They provide multiple sizes for those of you with smaller or bigger ears. The flat cable tangling less than a regular cable is very appealing. As it says on their site, this is an “evolution” for earbuds which are notorious for tangling.
While design is greatly appreciated, it’s the sound we’re concerned about. Getting right to the point, these are very crisp sounding headphones. You get wonderful highs and mids but the bass levels leave something to be desired. Since you don’t get full lows, I found these headphones to be best used with acoustic/light styles of music like songs from Eric Clapton or “Rubber Soul” era-Beatles. If you’re the type that listens to bass heavy music, GeekBeat Blogger Nathan Gilchrist recently took a look at the Ear Pollution: TimbrePro buds which, in a nutshell, provide much more bass albeit at a higher price.
iFrogz EarPollution: Evolution – General Impressions
This was my first experience with the EarPollution series and overall, I’m impressed. Since they are in-ear canal buds, you get a clean sound with very little interruption from the outside world which provides very optimal listening either inside or out. As far as buds are concerned, about 30 bucks is little to ask for when it comes to the crisp clean sound you get from the EarPollution Evolution set.
They are available on Amazon, so if you’d like a pair head on over there.
