Review: Keyport Slide Brings Tech to Your Keychain

September 25, 2011 by Matthew Cowling

Keyport SlideDo me a favor and take out your keys. How many keys and rings do you have? Are there some old trinkets from years ago still sticking around for no apparent reason? Guys, are you sick and tired of having all those bulky, sharp keys poking the side of your leg when you sit down? I know I am. With technology driving every other aspect of our lives, it’s about time we updated our keyrings to some pretty cool tech. Enter the Keyport Slide.

The keyport slide is a swiss army knife, but for your keys. With the slide of a knob, your keys slide out when you need them, and get stored away into a durable metal chamber when you don’t. Six chambers inside the keyport allow you to not only insert keys, but flash drives, bottle openers, and led flashlights. Now, I know this sounds like it would be even more bulky than the keys themselves, but it is not. With all the keys and accessories stored in a compact device and not twisting and getting kinked up, it stays very orderly.

I have been using the keyport for a couple weeks now and am really enjoying it. With six colored “nodes” attached to each insert, or “blade”, it is very easy to quickly spot your desired key. The blades slide out with ease and the device is very durable. The integration of the led flashlight is ideal for those difficult times finding the correct key in the dark. The bottle opener is useful for, well, opening bottles. The flash drive is my favorite feature. I bet a lot of you have a flash drive on your keyring, but the problem is they get damaged from being tossed around during normal use. You can now have a 4GB or 8GB flash drive that won’t get scratched or broken, making sure your important files are always with you. After all, it would be a shame to lose that copy of Nyan cat you ripped from YouTube.  There is even integration for car keys that use chip sensors to protect against lock picking. To do this, one slot will be used for a car key blade, and another slot for mounting the chip. Don’t worry though, this slot won’t be wasted, as you can insert barcodes to two different stores such as a Tom Thumb or Kroger card.

The keyport is a fun and convenient gadget for anyone who wants to clean up their keychain and have a cool new gadget to show off to their friends. I can tell you first hand, people are more interested in my keychain than ever before.
