Frogdice Studios’ ReignMaker is a city builder/resource management game with a bit of a twist in the form of match-3 game play.
At first glance it seems like an unusual combination, but it’s an unusual combo that works really well. You’re cast in the role of the ruler of a small community. Your people are at war with various hostile lands, and you must guide your town to victory.
ReignMaker isn’t ALL fighting and resources though. As you progress through the game, your people will call upon you to make important policy decisions in the form of multiple choice questions with some back story for flavor. Through these stories, you can determine the shape of your rule; benign or despotic, greedy or terrible.
ReignMaker is a fantastic game to spend an hour with here and there. Progression keeps you coming back without ever making you feel pressured to do so. There is a calm, funny sort of charm to the graphics and stories that makes this game a keeper in my collection.
ReignMaker is available for Windows, Mac & Linux on Steam for $14.99.
